Reasons to Choose Palm Leaf Plates Over Bamboo Plates

Running a successful business in the food industry and being green at the same time is possible. Instead of spending a fortune on ceramic types of plates that can break easily, you can choose to serve your dishes the Eco-friendly but still stylish way – hence, palm tree bowl and plates of all kinds. Although bamboo has been considered the best Eco-friendly material for creating disposable tableware, these days palm leaf has taken its place and for plenty of reasons.

For all we all know, both bamboo and palm leaf plates and bowls or tableware in general are made out of renewable source, but what we might not know is that palm leaf tableware are sustainable as they are made of naturally fallen leaves. This means that palm trees are never cut down, and for the palm tree bowl and tableware production are used fallen leaves. This means that no harm can be done to the tree, unlike bamboo tableware which is made out of bamboo trees that are cut down specifically for commercial use.

Although both palm leaf plates and bamboo plates are biodegradable, it has been proven that only palm leaf tableware can compost in about 5 to 8 weeks. Unlike palm leaf, bamboo products are expected to break down in about 8 months.

Another reason why palm leaf is better for tableware is because they can resist heat better. This means that there will be no problem if you want to reheat or defrost something in the microwave, but only it is for 2 minutes (on high). When used in the oven, they can withstand heat for about 45 minutes when at 350 degrees. Bamboo tableware, on the other hand, does not react well to heat, meaning that they can easily deform at high temperatures.

When compared to bamboo, palm leaf plates and bowls are thicker and more rigid. And while bamboo is more consistent in thickness, they are thinner, therefore prone to deformation. Another great reason for investing in palm leaf tableware is because of their affordability. Palm raw leaves are easy to gather which after that are washed and dried. Once down they are usually pressed into the desired shape by the aid of hydraulic pressing and impacts of heat after which the edges should be smoothed and that's it. This is the whole procedure of making palm leaf tree plates and bowls, while the one for bamboo is more complex as bamboo trees need to be cut down, shaped and treated carefully.
